Club History

You will find our small and friendly club in a very quiet area of Eastry almost opposite St. Mary’s Church. In 1906 a group of villagers decided to create and form a bowling club. The bowling green was created on the site it still occupies today but at the time the site used to be an orchard. The green was completed and the bowling club was established in 1908. The earliest list of member’s dates back 1913. The club carried on through two World Wars but unfortunately there is a lack of records since this time. The next document available was a photo taken was in 1983 and the club looked in good shape. It seemed to keep this way until the next photo taken in 1992. You will see the pavilion has had an extension added and the club is thriving. In 2005/06 the green was re-laid following vandalism. Sadly through lack of new members the club shrank to playing amongst themselves with around 12 members. In 2012/13 Pfizer decided to withdraw from their Sandwich site leaving Pfizer bowling club without a home. Some of their members came the way of Eastry, swelling club membership to around 40. The club is beginning to thrive again and we are glad that you have decided to join.
